Attention 1st and 2nd Year Students – Add+vantage Module Registration
You are no doubt in the midst of finishing off coursework, frantically revising for your exams and looking forward to chilling out a bit over the Easter break. Just after this break, you need to register for the Add+vantage and Optional modules you would like to study next academic year1 via NOVA on the following dates:
– Monday 24th April (10.00am) to Monday 31st May (midnight) for Level 1 students
– Tuesday 25th April (10.00am) to Monday 31st May (midnight) for Level 2 students
Please be aware that you have up until 31st May to change your module choice on nova. After this date you will not be able to change your module selection. Therefore, it is essential that you choose your module carefully now. I cannot stress this enough!
Here are some tips to help you choose the right module for you:
Think strategically, long term and career aspirations
The Add+vantage Scheme has been set up to offer you a wide range of modules to help you become more employable. Make the most of this Scheme by choosing a module that is really going to enhance your CV and make you stand out in the graduate marketplace. Consider which module will significantly add to your skill set or grab the attention of a potential employer.
Consider gaps in your skills/experience
If you lack some of the skills, qualifications or experience needed to get into and progress in your chosen career, face this head on and fill in these gaps using the relevant Add+vantage module. For example, if the thought of doing a presentation or working in groups fills you with dread, push yourself beyond your comfort zone and choose a module that involves giving presentations or team working. If you haven’t yet done much work experience, do a work experience/volunteering module.
Broaden your horizons or consolidate
You can choose a module that is completely different to your degree subject to broaden your knowledge and experience. Alternatively, you can select one that is closely aligned to your field to add to or consolidate your subject knowledge. The choice is yours.
Do your research
The phrase, “don’t judge a book by its cover” also applies to choosing an Add+vantage module. The module title gives you a flavour of what a module is about but it certainly won’t tell you everything about the module! Invest your time in reading about the modules that appeal to you. You can do this by reading a summary of the modules on the Student Portal Add+vantage or viewing more detailed module information on the MID (Module Information Directory).
Check that you are eligible to study your preferred module. I.e. read the module entry requirements and excluded combinations sections in the module information.
If you need guidance or support choosing your module, speak to the Add+vantage Team, a Careers Consultant or your personal tutor. We are all here to help you. See contact details below.
Module registration is based on a first come first serve basis and be forewarned that some modules fill up very quickly. Therefore, to avoid disappointment, be ready to register for your preferred module as soon as module registration opens. The saying, “the early bird catches the worm” springs to mind.
The choice is yours so make the Scheme work for you!
