Get a Step Closer to Teacher Training

The next step before you apply is to choose the training course that’s right for you. There’s a range of great options and the choice is yours.

School-led training
If you want your training to be based in a school where you will be part of school life and work with experienced teachers from day one, a school-led course is for you. You’re selected by the school and are based there during your training. You will also spend time in at least one other school to gain the broad experience required to become a qualified teacher.

If you are a graduate and have been working for around 3 years in any career, School Direct (salaried) courses are available exclusively to you. With this option, you will earn a salary while you train in a school and learn ‘on the job’.

University-led training
If you want your teacher training to be based at a university, this is the course for you. Universities that offer teacher training courses will work with groups of schools to offer at least two school experience placements as part of your training.

You also need to decide the subject and age group you want to teach. Use the UCAS Teacher Training search tool to find your course.
